If you’re going to hire someone, don’t just hire for skills.
Skills should be the least things you look at when hiring.
First, hire for values.
Because if their values aren’t lined with yours, then down the line you’re going to have problems.
Second, hire for abilities.
Are they (their abilities) in line with the specs for the job?
If they write 2 words/second and the job requires someone who writes 5 words/second, you have a problem.
Last, hire for skills.
These are the least thing to look for when hiring. because you can teach someone the skills required for the job.
But if they don’t have the set of values you agree on and the abilities necessary for the job, then couple months in, you will find out it wasn’t the right hire.
