Frank’s Blog : It Is Far Better To Be Alone Than…

I just heard Dave on his Podcast/YouTube channel the Dave Ramsey show, speak on the influence the people we hang around with have on us.

He said: you will be like your 5 to 10 closest friends, the ones you spend enough time with to influence your thinking. You will make about the same money. If they are successful, you will be. If they go to church, you will. If they read the bible, you will. If they are weed heads, you will be. If they believe everything has to be given to them, you will. If they believe they can’t get ahead in life, you will. If they vote the wrong way, you will.

If you hang around with people who are successful, they will start challenging/changing your thinking pattern from seeing things you can’t do to how you can do them, you will start to see all the opportunities around you because that’s all your friends think and talk about. That’s why you don’t let your kids run around with little Jony, a weed head. Because they will be weed heads too.

This is not to say don’t talk to people or be mean to people. I believe you can learn something from anyone. Anyone can teach something no matter who they are. I love having conversations with people, talking to them, listening to their stories, how they defend their wrong ideas, how they vote the wrong way, yet I’m still friends with them.

I’m talking about the kind of friends that are in your close circle. The ones that will carry your casket, those are the ones. Because you actually spend enough time with them, to be influenced by them.

It is far better to be alone than to be in bad company. ~ George Washington
