10 ways to have a better conversation

As suggested by Celeste Headlee in her Ted Talk:

  1. Don’t multitask. (be present)
  2. Don’t pontificate. (assume you can learn something new)
  3. Use open ended. questions
  4. Go with the flow. (follow the conversation, not what you thought the conversation would be like)
  5. If you don’t know, say you don’t know.
  6. Don’t equate your experiance with theirs.
  7. Try no to repeat yourself.
  8. Stay out of the weeds. (people don’t care about the little details)
  9. Listen.
  10. Be brief. (“A good conversation is like a miniskirt; short enough to retain interest, but long enough to cover the subject”)
